I recently started a non-profit initiative with my friend, Shirley Trivedi. We were heartbroken when we realised that not all girls in India have the privilege to be aware and confident about their menstruation cycles. This is the reason why we wish to reach out to as man girls as possible and educate them about what their body is going through when they start menstruating. This is a poem that I recently wrote, and I dedicate it to all the girls that we wish to help!
Women call me many things,
From Crimson Tide to the Red Badge of Courage,
Even sometimes and punctual wretch,
Or maybe a painful curse.
Most blame me,
They despise me for what I give them;
They think it’s pain,
But it is a boon in disguise.
They’re innocent, unaware;
Of my true identity,
And thus scurry away with shame
Rather than standing out with pride.
Look at me not as bloodshed,
But as a seed of a new life,
A miracle that god has made,
As a blessing to all women.
